Given a UPC or EAN number, can you find out to what product it belongs?Short answer: Maybe. Long answer: There is no consolidated database of issued EAN / UPC numbers. The national GS1 branches maintain a database of manufacturers but how those manufacturers use their pool of numbers is not recorded. Two online databases used to be available which claim to have between about one and two million records. However, those databases are based on efforts by volunteers, so the quality and reliability is unknown.
